Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering at IIT Delhi is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges offering Textile Education in India. It has the distinction of being the only Textile Department in the IIT system. It offers one UG program in Textile Technology and three PG programs in Textile Chemical Processing, Textile Engineering and Fiber Science & Technology, besides offering the Doctoral program. Alumni of the department are holding senior positions of responsibility in Indian industry and are employed as teachers and researchers in various organisations round the country.
Teaching and research activities in the department focus on niche and futuristic areas including new manufacturing technologies, Smart textiles, Nanotechnology, Eco friendly processing and Biotextiles. Engineering of functional apparel such as medical clothing, pressure garments, extreme cold weather clothing and bullet proof vests are important areas of current research.
The department has active interaction with several global institutes such as the University of Bolton, UK and the University of Liberec, Czech Republic, in terms of fellowships and internships as well as faculty exchange and joint research. An EU project involving EPFL, Switzerland, Uppsala, Sweden, RWTH, Aachen and UC, London is carrying out research in Tissue Engineering. The department has strong interactions with Institute of Natural Fibers, Poznan, CSIRO Fibres and Textiles Technology, Melbourne, CNR-ISMAC, Shinshu University, Japan, Hanoi University of Technology, Vietnam and NCSU of USA leading to mutually rewarding activities.

World University of Design (WUD) is established at Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonipat, Haryana - a hub of educational institutions of eminence in India, to accelerate the take-up of design in industrial and innovation activities at regional and national level. Established in 2018, under the Haryana Private University Act 2006, WUD has the right to confer degrees under section 2(f) and 22(l) of the UGC Act. WUD offers trans-disciplinary education with a design foundation at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level in Architecture, Design, Fashion, Communication, Visual arts & Management. Equipped with the largest portfolio of design courses in India, the university offers a number of cutting edge programs.
WUD has the distinction of being the youngest university to be awarded a design and innovation capacity building grant under the ERASMUS plus programme of the EU. WUD will be working with a consortium of international partner universities including Brunel University, UK; Politecnico di Milano, Italy; University of Aegean, Greece and IIITD Delhi. WUD has already established international collaborations with leading education institutions like Vancouver Film School & Emily Carr University (Canada); University of Huddersfield & Oxford Brookes University (UK); ENSAIT and Academie Charpentier (France); and College of Creative Studies, Michigan (USA). WUD is a also member of Cumulus, the international body of design institutions. WUD has a mission to grow into a Centre of excellence and a vibrant hub for design education in the country.
